I got an error that said "Vehicle Not Eligible." What does this mean?

The vehicle was probably already titled in the new owner's name.

What do I do with the license plate on the transferred vehicle?

After successfully completing the "Notice of Vehicle Transfer" on our web site, regular automobile license plates should be destroyed by the seller. Truck and trailer plates may stay with the vehicle and be transferred to the new owner. Special prestige license plates may be kept by the seller.

If you prefer, you may surrender the plate to your local motor vehicle office or mail the plate to the following address:

How do I report that the vehicle was a lease-end trade-in?

This information must be mailed to the address shown above.

How do I report that the vehicle was totaled as a result of an accident?

This information must be mailed to the address shown above.

This information must be mailed to the address shown above.

What do I do if the sale date of my vehicle was prior to 2001?

This information must be mailed to the address shown above.

What do I put for first and last name when reporting a vehicle as traded in to a dealership?

Instead of putting a first and last name, put the name of the dealership.

How can I tell the difference between the number zero and the letter O in the Vehicle Identification Number?

The number "0" is always used in the Vehicle Identification Number, never the alpha "O".

Is there a refund on license plate that has remaining years of validity?

Sorry, no.

What other steps need to be taken by the buyer and seller to complete the sell of a vehicle?

You must bring or mail all the required documents to your nearest motor vehicle office or public tag agency or mail to the following address:
