Personalized Plate Frequently Asked Questions

Can I purchase my personalized plate online?
Your plate can be requested online, but a payment will have to be mailed in.  When payment is received the plate is ordered.

What methods of payment are available?
Checks or money orders are the only methods of payment at this time.

When do I have to pay for my plate?
When your request is accepted, a fee is quoted. You will have to mail the payment in before the plate is actually ordered.

How do I know the cost of my plate?
When your request is accepted, a fee is quoted.

How long will it take to get an answer?
You should get an answer through e-mail within 1 - 2 days.

How soon will my plate be in?
You should allow about 12 weeks for the plate to come in.

Will my plate be mailed to me or do I have to pick it up?
If you have a regular number plate on your vehicle, your personalize plate will be mailed directly to you.  If you have a special plate, it would have to be turned in and the new plate picked up.

Is there any way to check on the status of a plate I have ordered?
After your payment has been received and your plate ordered, you will be notified via e-mail.  If you do not receive your plate after the allotted time (10-12 weeks) you should contact our office at 225-925-6371.

When I get my personalized plate, what do I do with my old license plate?
Your old plate has been cancelled.  It does not have to be turned in, but you should break it in half and discard it.

Will personalized plates have the new Louisiana Purchase design?
